According to The Texas Department of Insurance: "It is illegal for contractors or roofers to offer to waive a deductible or promise a rebate for all or part of a deductible. Under the new law effective September 1, 2019 violators could get up to a $2,000 fine and up to six months in jail."

Dealing with insurance companies can be extremely confusing and frustrating – and that’s why Tellez Roofing's experience in handling insurance matters can be extremely helpful. Our team knows what to look for regarding roof damage and may be able to see problems that the adjuster doesn’t. We have worked harmoniously with many insurance adjusters over the years.

We have perfected our insurance restoration process and we always strive to take the load off of the homeowner's shoulders when it comes to dealing with the insurance companies for any storm-related claims.

Step 1 - Estimating and Insurance Process:

Filing a claim

During our first visit, we will assess your project and provide you with a hard copy or email version of your estimate.

When we verify hail damage to the property we advise you to call your insurance company to initiate a claim. By law, we cannot file a claim for you. What we can do is provide you with information regarding the insurance industry's standards so you could make more knowledgeable decisions. If necessary, we will provide temporary repairs to cover the roof with tarps as soon as possible to prevent your house from further damages at no cost to you. For emergency repairs that require extensive roof patching, we will bill you the amount and have the insurance reimburse you with your claim.

Meeting with Insurance Adjuster

After you file a claim, an insurance adjuster is assigned to your home. He/she will be scheduled to come out to verify the damages and create an estimate. Often, the adjuster will miss some very important items like roof elements, the presence of a double roof, or deteriorating wood. Most of the items missed are often the items that are required by the local city building codes, which we strictly adhere to. We understand the construction part of the restoration of an insurance project very well. Keep in mind, insurance adjusters will mention that if they missed anything, we can notify them before starting the work and make the necessary corrections to their estimate. Our policy is to let the adjuster do his/her job and not interfere unless significant mistakes about the claim are being made.

Edit: Due to Covid-19, some insurance companies are requesting us to visit the home and take pictures on their behalf to avoid sending their adjusters to the home. We will gladly work with your insurance in providing pictures and all the information that they request. Due to this, you may be subjected to a service fee if you decide not to choose Tellez Roofing for your project.

Step 2 - Homeowner Project Review:

Once we receive approval from your insurance company we will schedule a meeting with you to go over the following:

• Scope of Work
• Brands and Product Selection

Step 3 - Project Planning:

In our office we will make sure we have everything ready for the day of your roof replacement. We will schedule all other jobs related to the claim:

• Management Review
• Project Planning
• City Permits
• Scheduling
• Material Orders
• Job Orders

Step 4 - Project Completion:

Delivery of Materials
Roofing materials are usually delivered in the morning or a few days before the roof replacement. Our Roofing Specialist will do a thorough inspection and make sure all of the materials are delivered and are of the correct brand/color.

The Project
We start our roof replacements in the mornings. We will begin to replace your roof and do other repairs required for your property. It usually takes two to three days to replace the roof depending on the size and complexity. All other parts of the project such as gutters, window screens, etc., are done after roof installation.

Managing the Project
On the day of the roof installation, the Roofing Specialist or Project Manager will be at your property to meet with the crew to make sure any special instructions you might have given are being followed. We pride ourselves on cleanliness throughout the project.

Here are items we pay close attention to:

• Protecting the property
• Covering the Pool
• Constant sweeping and removing nails and debris from driveways and walkways.

Completing Final Inspection​
​Once everything is completed, you and the Roofing Specialist or Project Manager will go over the Inspection Checklist together, point-by-point, to confirm everything has been completed to your satisfaction. If your home required a city permit - we will schedule the city inspector to approve the work.
After completion, we will provide you with a 3-year workmanship warranty.

We can help even if your insurance adjuster has already made a decision.

It is best if we can represent you during the initial inspection of your damaged roof. However, if your claim was rejected and you think you have a legitimate claim, let us take a look at the damage. If we do not agree with the adjuster’s investigation, we will recommend a second inspection. Rarely will they refuse, but the claim handler may ask for photos of the damage. We would be happy to take the photos for you.
